Biografia
Nato nel 1955. B.Zarro è un artista Neo Espressionista. Proviene dalla scuola mediterranea. Dopo il diploma all’Istituto Tecnico per il Disegno, studia architettura all’Università.
Nella seconda metà degli anni ’80 fa frequenti viaggi in Estremo Oriente, visitando più volte il Giappone, la Corea del Sud, la Cina Repubblicana ed Hong Kong, restando affascinato dal minimalismo dell’arte orientale e dalla spiritualità dei luoghi sacri.
Negli anni ’90 è presente in Spagna dove soggiorna a lungo tra il 1992 ed il 1998. Diventa un frequentatore assiduo del famoso “Café Shilling”, un tradizionale luogo di incontro degli artisti catalani ed internazionali contemporanei nel barrio gotico della vecchia Barcellona.
Nel 1999 ha un considerevole successo a Roma con una personale al Vittoriano, dove è incluso nel calendario di mostre di grandi artisti del ventesimo secolo fra cui Renoir, Chagall e Mirò.
Nel 2000 una delle sue opere “Paesi Materasso”, è presa dall’Agenzia delle Nazioni Unite per l’alimentazione (W.F.P.) come testimonial per il Programma Alimentare Mondiale nell’ambito di una campagna di raccolta fondi avviata nel più importante spazio per l’edutainment mai realizzato in Italia: The Village. Nello stesso anno la sua esposizione “Via le mani dal gioco”, alla Galleria Le Cirque al Parco De’ Medici, è visitata da oltre centomila persone.
Nel 2002 i suoi lavori, insieme a quelli di Picasso, Mirò e Matisse, sono scelti per la commemorazione della tragedia delle Torri Gemelle a New York per l’evento “Roma incontra New York - Musica e Arte per la Pace”.
Nel 2003 partecipa ad “Art Show - NY”, l’Esposizione Internazionale di Arte di New York, una delle più importanti fiere d’arte del mercato americano.
Nell’estate 2004 riscuote notevole successo con l’esposizione “Frammenti di nomadismo etico” con la quale occupa l’intera area della Stazione Termini di Roma attraverso le sue grandi installazioni.
Nel 2005 è presente a Venezia ad OPEN 8, Mostra Internazionale di Scultura ed Installazioni, insieme ad altri quarantaquattro artisti di tutto il mondo. Riceve in questa occasione il premio per il miglior lavoro con la sua installazione “Il Cavallo Di Troia”. Lo stesso anno, a Firenze, partecipa alla “Cow Parade”, la più grande esposizione d’arte itinerante in oltre cento città.
Nel 2006 la sua installazione “Michael Angel’s-la Pietà Universale”, collocata a Venezia presso la Stazione di Santa Lucia in contemporanea alla Biennale di Architettura, è fotografata da oltre 500.000 persone e finisce sulla prima pagina del “Washington Times” e in altri numerosi giornali del mondo.
Nel 2007 vince il disco d’oro con la copertina dell’album del cantante Fabrizio Moro, il quale vinse inoltre il Festival di Sanremo. Nello stesso anno crea la copertina del nuovo album di Junior Marvin, il leggendario chitarrista di Bob Marley.
Nel settembre 2007 è presente a Venezia in OPEN 10, con il “Manifesto Post-comunista”, una Rolls Royce Silver Shadow rossa del ’74 sulla quale ha dipinto una gigantesca falce e martello gialla, la prima opera auto-itinerante nella storia dell’arte, che gli porta un considerevole successo internazionale; il suo tour finirà nell’ottobre del 2009 nel ventesimo anniversario dalla caduta del Muro di Berlino.
Nel 2008, è ideatore e direttore artistico del “MuraLex”, un’installazione sulle mura delle carceri di Rebibbia (per una lunghezza di 1600 metri), il più grande lavoro di land art prodotto in Italia.
Nel settembre 2009 presenta alla OPEN 12 di Venezia il “Manifesto Post-consumista” (Capitalismo rivisitato-omaggio a Schifano) in una performance di accusa all’attuale sistema economico mondiale ed alla società iperconsumistica. Riceve nell’occasione il Premio Open per la scultura, collaterale alla 66° Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica.
Nell’estate del 2010 realizza la personale “Genio contro Genio – Il richiamo della pittura” presso il Complesso del Vittoriano a Roma.
Tra dicembre 2011 e gennaio 2012 è presente a Capri con la mostra “Blonde vs blonde” svoltasi nella Certosa di S. Giacomo per il Festival Capri-Hollywood.
Artista versatile, B.Zarro esprime un linguaggio contemporaneo prediligendo il “fascino dell’incompiuto” di cui Picasso parlava e definito da egli stesso “la vera rivoluzione culturale della pittura moderna”. I suoi lavori si trovano ovunque, dalle ville di Capri a quelle di Los Angeles, nei loft di Londra e di New York, nelle dimore di Montecarlo e di Barcellona e nei più importanti alberghi del mondo.
Biography
Born in 1955. B.Zarro is a neo expressionist artist. He comes from the Mediterranean school. After his diploma at the School of Design he studied Architecture at University.
In the second half of the Eighties he travelled repeatedly in the Far East, where he visited several times Japan, South Korea, Republican China and Hong Kong; he was fascinated by the minimalism of oriental art and by the spirituality of the holy places.
In the Nineties his presence was “reported” in Spain where he lived frequently between 1992 and 1998. He was a regular visitor to the famous “Café Shilling”, in the Barri Gotic of old Barcelona, a traditional meeting place for international and Catalan artists.
In 1999 he had considerable success with a solo exhibition at the Vittoriano Museum Complex in Rome, where he was included in a calendar of the great twentieth-century artists along with Renoir, Chagall and Mirò.
In 2000 one of his works, “Mattress Countries”, was chosen by the UN food agency (W.F.P.) as testimonial for the World Food Programme as part of a fund-raising campaign in the most important edutainment space ever created in Italy: The Village. In the same year his exhibition “Hands off the game”, at the Le Cirque Gallery in the Parco De’ Medici, was visited by over 100,000 people.
In 2002 his works, along with those of Picasso, Mirò and Matisse, were included in the commemoration for the tragedy of the Twin Towers in New York, at the event broadcast live to the world entitled “Rome meets New York – music and art for Peace”.
In 2003 he was invited by the Susanna Shoa gallery in Chelsea to show his work at International Art Expo of New York the most important art fair on the American market.
From 27 May to 28 July 2004 he had great success with the exhibition “Fragments of ethical nomadism” which filled the whole area of the Termini Station in Rome with large installations.
In 2005 he was present at OPEN 8 in Venice, International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations with the participation of 44 famous artists, where he received the prize for the best work for his installation “Trojan Horse”. In the same year he participated in Florence in the Cow Parade, the largest Art Exhibition in the world, travelling to over 100 cities.
In 2006 his installation “Micheal Angel’s” placed in Venice, S. Lucia station, during the Biennale of Architecture, was photographed by over 500,000 people and ended in newspapers worldwide and on the front page of the Washington Times.
In 2007 he won the gold disc, with the album cover of the singer Fabrizio Moro, who also won the Festival of Sanremo. In the same year he designed the cover of the new album by Junior Marvin, legendary guitarist of Bob Marley.
In September 2007 at OPEN 10 he presented the “Post-communist Manifesto”, a red Rolls Royce, with a yellow big hammer and sickle, the first self-itinerant work in art history that has had considerable international success in the world; its tour ended in October 2009 on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In 2008, he was founder and co-author of the “MuraLex”, a review of the prison walls of Rebibbia (covering 1600 metres), the greatest work of land-art produced in Italy.
In September 2009 at OPEN 12 he presented the “Post-consumerist Manifesto (Capitalism reconsidered - tribute to Mario Schifano)” with an accusatory performance towards the contemporary global economic system and the excessive consumerism of society. He also received the Open Prize, the Special Prize to the 66th Venice International Film Festival.
In 2010 he opened his solo exhibition “Genio contro Genio - Il richiamo della pittura” at the Vittoriano in Rome.
From December 2011 to January 2012 he was present on Capri with his solo exhibition "Blonde vs blonde " held in the Certosa di San Giacomo for the Capri- Hollywood Festival.
A versatile artist, he chooses a modern language, preferring “the charm of the unfinished” of which Picasso spoke and which he himself defines “the real cultural revolution of modern painting”. His works are to be found in villas on Capri and in Los Angeles, in the advertising spaces in London and New York, and in the most important hotels of the world.
